Dundee Fashion Week

This May will see the launch of the debut event Dundee Fashion Week, an inclusive community enterprise to nurture the city’s growing creative scene. Taking place from 2th-13th May, the event will host fashion shows, parties, exhibitions, style awards and much more, including the premiere of the ‘Style in the City’ documentary, which focuses on the influence of style icons on Dundee fashion.

Dundee Fashion Week is part of a wider initiative to foster creativity, growth and enterprise in the city, a welcome addition to Dundee’s identity as a UNESCO City of Design. As part of Dundee Design Month, the event will also support emerging designers and makers in the local community, providing valuable work experience for those soon to graduate from Dundee & Angus College. The event is an amplification of the annual Dundee and Angus College Fashion Show and this larger scale event will undoubtedly help to raise the city’s profile as well as that of the budding designers.

With the rise of cult brands such as Abandon Ship Apparel and Cartocon, Dundee is emerging as a fashion hub with its own individual style and this is exactly what Dundee Fashion Week will honour. Ultimately, DFW celebrates home grown talent, giving Dundee designers a chance to shine.

All of the events during DFW are free with the exception of the Dundee Fashion Week Finale and The Greatest Swish Ever at £10, making it a truly inclusive addition to the city’s social calendar.

The week will close with a traditional catwalk at The Caird Hall on the Sunday, displaying garments from independent retailers and boutiques in the Tayside area as well as pieces from former and current textile students at Dundee and Angus College.

Any remaining tickets for DFW can be purchased on Eventbrite or at Dundee Box Office.

With Secret Escapes recently naming Dundee as a ‘surprise contender’ in their list of ‘new destinations to watch’ in 2018, this is certainly proving to be a truly exciting and design-orientated year for the city.
