Oh Hello Vintage

Say hello to Dundee’s newest vintage clothing and lifestyle store. Popping up in lively Downtown Dundee, Oh Hello Vintage is a concept store and event space showcasing independent designers, brands and local artists. A vibrant addition to the city’s creative and cultural scene, the store is located on Exchange Street in Dundee’s cultural quarter, directly opposite Daily Grind, Hard Grind and Abandon Ship. Exchange Street has quickly established itself as a hub for independent clothing and coffee culture, so there’s no better place for the city’s newest independent retailer to flourish.

The shop unit itself has a firmly rooted retail culture. Originally home to the art-focused clothing brand Abandon Ship, the space has since been used as a pop-up store by the brands Dreamland Clothing and Little Lies. It’s been fascinating to see how each independent retailer has transformed the little space to make it their own. Click here to see how the independent clothing boutique Little Lies infused the space with life earlier this summer for their first ever pop-up concept shop.

Oh Hello Vintage went from conception to fully stocked and ready to trade in just three weeks. Since then, the shop has had a full makeover– it’s been completely redecorated with a few licks of cyan paint on top of the old millennial pink exterior. Intricate hand-painted lettering of the Oh Hello logo adorns the shopfront and the side wall, whilst a striking, hand-painted mural of a leopard is emblazoned across the side of the shop. The mural adds to the city’s wealth of urban artworks whilst infusing the alleyway with life and vibrancy.

The store first opened its doors on Saturday 4th August with a fabulous launch party. There were delicious cocktails courtesy of The Gin Bothy and a raffle for a vintage leather jacket customised by the incredibly talented Barbie Lowenberg. Amongst a collection of unique fashion pieces and accessories, vintage apparel was also showcased from local independent brand Dreamland Clothing.

Oh Hello Vintage is the latest offering from the fabulous Amanda Davies, a Dundee-based lifestyle blogger, vlogger and Editor-in-Chief at the independent online magazine Fashion Fix Daily.

Over on her blog Honey Pop Kisses, Amanda talks about all things Oh Hello Vintage and her lifelong dream of opening her very own vintage and lifestyle store:

“In one way or another, I’ve always wanted my own shop. When I was little it was a clothing shop (that was after I wanted to be a truck driver, but that’s another story!), when I was a teenager it was my own clothing label with a coffee & cake shop and the older I got, the more it morphed into a place to sell everything I love. From Indie brands to vintage, homeware, fashion & accessories, I wanted the store to reflect me & be full of amazing pieces.”

And the store is most certainly filled with beautiful, unique pieces. The space perfectly captures Amanda’s vibrant personality as well as her love of style, fashion and colour. She has adorned the shop space with hand-picked vintage items for both men and women and a curated collection of independent publications including She is Fierce, an art-focused magazine featuring the UK’s most creative women.

As well as showcasing and supporting independent artists and designers, Oh Hello Vintage will also provide a space for monthly events, workshops, pop-ups and launches. As a result, the space will undoubtedly act as a cultural hub for fostering creativity and collaboration within the local community. The first creative event in the shop space will be a typography workshop hosted by the hand letterer Toasty Type.

With its unique focus on community and social interaction, Oh Hello Vintage encapsulates a lifestyle concept store which dynamically combines local culture with a curated collection of clothing, accessories and independent publications. Ultimately promoting curation, experience, discovery and collaboration, the store is a fantastic addition to Dundee’s lively independent shopping scene.
